Finding Functional Windows

When I decided to upgrade my house, I realized that it might be wise to invest in high-end windows. In my first home, I bought cheap windows, which created drafts and made it hard to clean. Fortunately, by the time I became a second-time homeowner, I knew what to look for. I looked for windows with ultra violet light protection, tilt and swing cleaning features, and a hydrophobic coating that would repel water. You wouldn't believe the difference it made. Check out this website to learn more about windows and the features that can simplify your life each and every day.

Give Old Draperies A New Look

If you have an old set of draperies hanging over your windows and you want to give them an entirely new look, there are a few ways you can give them new life rather than throwing them away or stuffing them into storage. Here are a few fun ways to change your draperies, perhaps allowing you to keep them hanging for a while longer while you look around for a new set you love to place over your windows.

Add Bursts Of Color

Consider changing your drapes into a tie-dyed pattern! This will hide stained areas and will give your room an eye-catching look when using appealing colors. Stick with colors that complement each other well rather than using contrasting colors that will make the room look too busy. Take your draperies down, remove any hooks used to hang them and crumple them into a large ball.

Use heavy-duty large rubber bands or pieces of twine to keep the material tightly balled. Place dye in separate buckets and add water according to the packaging directions. Dip the draperies into each bucket for a few seconds so the color has a chance to adhere to the material. Place the draperies on a tarp to dry in the sun. Remove the string or rubber bands from the drapes. Wash in your washing machine to remove excess dye. You will be left with draperies that will be unique and colorful!

Add A Pattern

Consider adding fabric paint to areas of your draperies in a pattern that will draw attention. Purchase a stencil in whatever shape you desire. Place this over a piece of card stock and trace the open area. Cut the hole from the card stock. Repeat this process with a few more pieces of card stock so you do not need to keep reapplying your stencil several times when adding color.

Take down your draperies and flatten one on a large table. Tape the stencils in whichever pattern is desired on the drapery. Paint the open area with fabric paint in whichever color you wish. You can use one color or make each stencil a different hue if you wish. You can also make several different stenciled patterns if you want as well. Another idea is to place fabric paint directly on your hand and place it face down on the fabric. Repeat with both draperies and rehang for a new look.

Give It Bling

Glue several rhinestones along the edges of your draperies to give them a shimmering new look. Rhinestones can be purchased at a craft store in an array of different sizes and colors. Simply use fabric glue to adhere them directly to the material in whichever pattern you wish. Another idea is to sew sparkly fringe directly to the existing fabric.
